A stranger's mimosa hit my boarding folder before I'd even sat down. "Sweetie, this seat clearly isn't yours," she said, and the flight attendant agreed with her before checking a single thing. Two hundred passengers watched a gate agent's own scanner call me a liar for having a valid ticket. The captain gave me a choice: economy, in the back rows, or off the aircraft entirely. Nobody in that cabin knew what was zipped inside my backpack, or why the flight attendant's hands wouldn't stop shaking. By the time I finally opened it, the whole plane went quiet.
